maids

they are commonly known as domestic helpers and come mostly from indonesia and the philippines. some of them may make good employees whereas some may be very stubborn and even defying.

i would like to talk about maids slightly towards employers' side.

The media always claims that maids are always the one who gets bullied, taken advantage of as well as being abused. However, why would a normal human being resort to abusing another just for fun? there must be reasons behind it. here is one scenario where an employer gets so fed up, she had no other choices but to turn to violence towards the maids.

scenario 1:
the maid washes your undergarments in the same tub as your socks and table cloth. (disgusting right? don't be surprised, i actually know of such a case.) the employer told her not to mix undergarments with the socks and table cloth as it is unhygienic but the maid refused to listen, stating that there is nothing wrong with washing them together as this is what they do in their kampong. she even said that she could help her employer could even save on water and electricity bills. the maid then continues this for a one week, with her employer screaming at her everyday. in this case, since scolding do not help to "warn" her, as well as to improve the situation, the employer felt so helpless and thus, resorted to violence towards the maid.

after hearing of this case, would you still feel sympathetic towards them? i'm sure our fellow singaporeans are not as unreasonable and cruel as the media has portrayed them to be.
sure enough it is unfair for maids to put up with naggings, scoldings as well as violence, but don't employers also suffer from mental punishments and abuses from them too?
some examples:

examples 1: madm tells maid not to mix the white clothing with the black clothing. maid replies "yes", then mixes black and white clothings together and thus the colour from the black clothing is transferred to the white clothing.
example 2: madm has already given the maid 2 pots of rice to eat everyday, yet she has to steal the 1st grade bird nest soup madm cooked, and eat it.
example 3: maid does not bathe everyday! can you imagine? after working for the whole day, she would already smell BAD, in fact, everyone would smell bad. But the maid doesnt bathes everyday! that makes her super doubly smelly.

enough of examples.

these domestic helpers may come all the way from their countries to work for money but some of them don't even treat themselves seriously. they are rude to their employers and they even do the direct opposites of what is expected of them, just to spite their employers. some even tried seducing the males in the family hoping that they will marry them so they can lead better lives. some of them do so by wearing deep low cut tops and not covering them when they bend down.aren't they even more scheming than us?

after all these, i feel that maids are not the only ones who deserve pity. some of the employers deserve it more than they do.
